Selective deafness

We always say our kids only hear what they want to hear.  They don't hear us when we tell them to clean their rooms, feed the dog or do their chores.  Now, if we said in a whisper that we had candy, they would run us over.  They would ask, "Why are you screaming?"  "Because you don't hear me!"  Yes, I am yelling and I know it.  Eventually we get older and become the selective deaf ones.  So paybacks are fun!.....

Going on Vacation - on a budget!

Bob and I go on vacations together now that the kids aren't around to take me on their's.  We have gone to Vegas - on a budget.  It was really fun even though it doesn't sound it.  We saw all the shows we wanted, went to attractions on the strip, and ate what we wanted.  We had a certain amount every day for gambling and food.  I had coupons for different places to eat - buy one get one free, and we would plan our day then search for the meal coupons.  We really had fun, and never ran out of money!  When are we going again?.....

What is that?

When our kids are young we teach them do's and don'ts.  Don't use my hairbrush was one of those things.  I just wanted something that was mine that no one else used.  Yes, they used it on a daily basis so they didn't have to clean their own.  They won't admit to that but I know that is the reason.  I must clean my brush almost daily because Stacy still likes to use mine.  It works better than hers'.  Yea, right.  She doesn't like to clean it.  She can't blame the hairs on me, mine are short where hers are long!

Then I pull back the shower curtain.  Oh my goodness!  There in the drain!  What is it?  It looks alive!  Is it moving?  It's huge.  Get the gun.  Haha, I shot it.  Now there is a hole in the drain.  How can I explain that?  I can insist that the hair ball was alive it was so big.......

Where is Chef Ramsey?

I have been cooking meals since I was 6 years old and at that time some were iffy as to weather they were eatable.  Actually there are still days that the meals are eatable.  When I was 11 years old I took over all the cooking duties because my Mother worked and it was a help to her.  It was fun making new things and everyone ate them including my Mother.

After I had the kids they thought that I made mac and cheese for punishment because they were bad.  If that was the case, I would be making it every day!  Now 99 % of my meals are made from scratch.  Mom is my critic!  Yep, you guessed it, I can't cook!  I sat her tonight watching her pick vegetables and chicken out of home made chicken pot pie.  Oh, she doesn't like the gravy.  This goes on daily.  She will be receiving a TV dinner tomorrow, while I eat the chicken pot pie.

Where is Chef Ramsey?  I wonder if he would like my food!

How's this one Scotti?

Winter over?

Could it be possible?  Is Winter over?  Did Mr. Groundhog make a mistake?  We are now seeing shuttle signs that spring is on it's way, soon!  The crocuses and daffodills are poking their little heads out of the cold ground to get touched by the sun.  The birds are starting to sing in the morning offering everyone a welcome to their day.  They are also starting to gather twigs and nesting materials to build their mates a new home.  The ducks and geese are pairing up along the local ponds.  These are sure signs that spring is coming, hopfully soon.  Now I must do what I do for the birds every year, brush the cats and put it out for the birds.   Who's first?  Pumpkin?  Where are you?......

Little Old People

Working in the medical profession was always interesting for me.  I worked with the elderly at a long term center.  We had nice patients and others that were hard to handle.  We had people who would throw things, one actually broke a window throwing a water pitcure across the room.  You have your sweet little ones that motion you to come near as they want to whisper to you.  No they don't, they want you up close to hit you!  The little ladies that suddenly have learned to curse like troopers.  The families said they never curse a day in their life and thought that we taught them those words.  We don't speak to the patients that way.  Never.  So Nurses get hit, slapped, cursed at by the patient and sometimes the families, kicked, scratched and bruised by these little old people but it is very rewarding when the meanest of them all says, "I love you!".......

Vacation

Let's go on vacation!  Where do we want to go to share a few days all alone to see different things?  Florida?  California?  Maine?  Vegas?  We have been to Vegas before and survived.  The weather was warm enought to go without a coat during the day, cool enough at night to need one.  People, lots of people.  Sit and watch them.  They are from all over.  Some look very interesting and some don't.  There are beggers all over until they are told to move.  Rich ones are noticeable, then again so are the poor ones.  Lights, glitter, walking, lots of walking.  No sence getting a car, use the double decker bus and hope to get a front row seat.  Some bus drivers are even comics!  Yes, it would be nice to return there, then again there is also Disney World where no one knows you either.....hummmm

Spooky shows

I have always loved to watch the spooky shows.  Bob doesn't appreciate them like I do.  Along comes Stacy and he would cringe when we would turn on one of "those shows."  It was fun to have a partner in crime.  Then along came Mckenzie.  She sat right with us and even found some new ones for us to watch.  Now that's what I call three generations of togetherness!.....

Computer has what?

My computer is running slow and I have this program to clean the computer, so I called them to see what I am suppose to do.  They took over the computer like a pirate takes over a ship.  I watched in amazement as they diagnosed my problem.  The tech came out with a word for it.  My words were, "My computer has what?"  What is it?  It's a germ.  Okay if it were human I would give antibiotics, so what do I do now?  So they proceed to tell me what to do, yea right.  Finally they said they will take care of it, just don't touch it until you are told to do so.  It will take a few hours!  No, I won't survive.  I will get busy elsewhere.  I would walk by it not touching and it was finally ready.  Wow, is it fast again.  They took all the germies away and didn't even use an antibiotic!.....

Slip and Slide!

It's amazing to see what a little snow will do to the roads.  We only have about one inch of snow on the road that will stay till DOT finally comes and cleans it.  Just enough to create havoc.  Our road has a curve to it and most people are going very fast and miss the turn on dry pavement.  Well, another two cars bit the dust on the turn again.  No injuries but tow trucks were necessary.  Yep, winter is here.  What next?....

No Snow!

Yes it is still winter.  We havebeen getting a coating of snow every night for three days.  It is gone by noon.  No snow to move from the sidewalks, porch or driveway.  Oh no!  We are in another snow drought!  That is what the weathermen call it.  I don't mind.  I don't have to drive in it.  Spring will be early, my daffodils are popping their little leaves out of the ground already.  See, Mr. Groundhog isn't always right!  I hope.......

Indian Artifacts

When the kids were younger, Bobby found some fields that someone said there were Indian Artifacts in them.  So sure enough he would bring arrowheads home and rocks, lots of rocks that he said were artifacts.  Some were some weren't.  We had  boxes of rocks here.  When he moved away they went with him.  Then one day I needed a walk and went to the fields.  It was nice, with the paths from the tractor wheels, for casual walking.  Just remember no stepping on the new shoots of corn.  I would push pieces of corn in holes and cover them up so they would grow.  Walking up and down the fields where real Indians once were was awesome.  Was I walking in their footsteps?  Were they hunting for food?  Was their garden here.  All of a sudden I looked down and there is a perfect arrowhead.  I was so proud I yelled out probably waking my ancestors that lived there.  They aren't easy to see.  It is easier on a cloudy day.  Well, I was hooked!  Bob worried about me doing this alone and would accompany me at times.  He always found more than I did.  We continued doing this for years until I got sick and had to stop.  Now when I travel past the plowed fields I hear the Indians, slowly beating the drums, calling for someone to come and find more things that have been left behind.  Yes, this is the place to find these things.  Yes, I will be back to find more.......

Cars Cont'd

I was not the only one in the house that had bad cars.  Bob had one he put sheet metal on the body to keep it going.  There was a hook and eye on the door for a lock.  If the heater was needed, you pushed the lever up and the driver got heat, push down and the passenger got heat.  These cars are not like the cars we have around today.  He had one that he rolled and it kept going.  I still cringe but that is what we could afford in those days.  Thank heavens we grew up.......

It's too hot!

We burn wood for heat in the winter.  No, we don't agree on how to run it.  I don't like the house too hot nor too cold.  It's like the three bears here.  I have the door open when it is too hot.  Bob comes along and shuts it unless he is the one to open it.  Then it is okay!  I try to go and check the woodburner after he tends it and shut it down a bit.  I know he knows I have been there.  I do try not to leave any traces.  So this goes on all winter until we shut the unit down.  In the mean time I am often saying, "It's too hot in here.  I don't live in the Bahamas!"

Help, it won't start

Another car I had would die in the middle of the street and it had no warning.  I had traffic tied up for blocks because it died near a construction zone and not one person came to see if they could do anything.  After about an hour it finally started and off I went.  Upon taking it to the shop the guy couldn't find anything wrong with it.  It left there just as bad as when I brought it in.  I got out of work one night with all the others and when I got to the light it died.  I went to the motel across the street and called Bob.  He couldn't believe no one would stop.  They stopped to flip me the finger or throw up their hands like it was my fault.  I did learn how to keep one foot on the gas and one on the brake when I was going to stop.  Someone finally figured out it's problem and it was all better, till the next thing broke down on it.......

Speaking of cars

After writing about cars yesterday it brought me back to the days of what I call Fred Flintstone's car.  This one Chevy I had was slowly losing the floor in the passenger side.  It didn't really come to our attention until the day Bobby stayed home from school sick.  We had gone to the local grocery store and he asked what the rotten smell was.  I told him it must be following us because it was getting worse.  Upon arrival at the store, Bobby jumped our of the car and noticed the carpet was smoldering.  I put it out with my flip-flop, and that was when I saw the pavement below!  We laughed about the car going up in flames and went for food.  Bob was aware of the problem and it was just a matter of going shopping for a newer car.

The following week it was raining and I was on my way to work.  By the time I got there the legs of my jeans were soaked.  Yes, another hole.  Guess I'd better start looking for a car, and soon!.......

Cars!

A car is like a man, can't live with them and can't live without them.  We live in the country and to go any where you must have a car.  I like being able to just go out, jump in the car and go.  I have had my share of junkers like everyone else has.  I had one that I needed a screwdriver with me at all times to whack something under the hood if the car didn't start.  I still cringe when I think about it.  That was back in the days that you knew what was where under the hood.  I hate having to take the car for inspections.  It's just a game.  If it doesn't need something it is amazing.  Tires, brakes or exhaust system.  I am usually late every year.  It was expired by three months one time, but a week late is my norm.  I decided to shock Bob by making an appointment early this year.  I am sure they will say it needs tires.  Sure enough I get the call, tires and brakes.  So they got me good, but now the car runs better.  So now I don't have to worry about this for another 12 months.  Can I have a loan?.......

New readers

Since I started my other blog for the Preemie hats, I have been in contact with more people.  If they ask me for information aboun myself I do mention my book.  Some people are amazed that I can keep everything moving on an even keel.  Some days it is a real challenge.  Some days it doesn't pay to get out of bed, but I do anyway.  So I am getting the book known more again.  The second book is coming along but slower.  Oh well, Rome wasn't made in a day either.

My Favorite Cemetery

I needed pictures in my favorite Cemetery.  Off I go again.  Looks the same as before.  Wait, there are actually two people walking around in it.  Real live people.  I talked with them a while.  Yes of course they were probably related.  I let them know to be careful of the visitors that you can't see.  Took my pictures and it was time to leave.  Say good by to past and present, but always remember it.

Super Bowl Sunday!

Yes, this Sunday two teams get together to play football.  It is just a bunch of grown men chasing after each other because one of them has the ball.  Kind of like tag, you're it!  It does take them hours to play this game that should only last an hour and thirty minutes.  As soon as a play is done they call "Time out!"  Why?  The kids don't play it like this.  So this takes 4 hours to play at the least.  The best things about it are the new commercials and the junk food you make for the night.  Every once in a while you yell "yea" and everyone thinks you know what is going on, even if you don't.  So sit down, decide who you want to cheer for and if they aren't winning switch teams to cheer on.  Enjoy the commercials and food.  Just remember, if they give both teams a ball, they wouldn't fight over the ball like they do.  Enjoy the "Super Bowl!".....

Stash!

I was reading a posting on Facebook this morning about a lady using up her stash of yarn to make an afghan.  Yes, she will use up some of her stash on this but will also find she needs another color to compliment one she has.  Then when she sees the new colors, she will want another color that looks good with it.  Needless to say her stash just got bigger.  I did this with fabric for quilts and yarn for the Preemie Hats.  I had some yarn that I could use but then needed something to go along with it.  The next thing I know is I needed a tote to put all the recently purchased yarn.  I an using up a skein at a time, but there is another of that color waiting in the tote.  So that stash is always there and added to frequently.  Do you have a stash?
